We are an ecological consultancy partnership specialising in preparing ecological information for planning applications, the gathering of ecological evidence (both field and desk-based, including literature reviews) and environmental research. We set up in 2008 and have undertaken a large number (hundreds) of ecological reports and EcIAs for clients.

Whittingham Ecology is a led by Emeritus Professor Mark Whittingham MCIEEM FRSB. Mark has a PhD in Ecology and worked in ecological academic research for 27 years (the latter 12 years as a Professor) – his academic papers can be found here https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Mark-Whittingham and citations to them here https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=FrfyNjUAAAAJ&hl=en. He has retained an Honorary Position as an Emeritus Professor at Newcastle University but has now retired from academic life to focus on Whittingham Ecology. Mark is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management  (MCIEEM) and thus all of our work is carried out to the standards set by CIEEM (https://cieem.net/).

We work with trusted subcontractors in different parts of England and Scotland to deliver high quality ecological reports combining local access for site visits with high quality reporting. These subcontractors are listed on the website (link to subcontractors page), and we have well-established tried and trusted working relationships with all of them. Some have PhDs or Masters in Ecology, all are experienced naturalists, are knowledgeable and easy to work with.
